A "peace" of our minds
Seriously guys, it was like watching a movie! This year my husband wanted to check out the Super Bowl, so we both sat down, two casual observers, intending to watch for just a few minutes. Fast-forward three hours, and there we were, cheering away for those underdogs, the Eagles. We couldn’t stop watching if we wanted to. How fascinating to see one team, by staying focused and giving their best, slowly take over a much more seasoned team until there was no recovery. It reminded me of the fable about the Tortoise and the Hare. The story teaches that the tortoise’s focused, determined movement forward ultimately wins the race over the hare’s distracted behavior and intermittent bursts of energy. How could relatively new contenders like the Eagles beat the intimidating Goliath that is the Patriots? To put it simply, the Eagles got into their flow. They operated completely in the present. How simple and powerful it is to operate in the present! I couldn’t help but think the Patriots needed some serious yoga Sunday night! Yoga certainly can be a valuable tool to help us operate in the present. Through yoga we clear out mental “clutter”: the fears and distractions that can interfere with work, relationships, and creative pursuits. I tend to experience inertia when needing to make big decisions and get things done, so distraction can become an escape, therefore a problem, for me. However, when I come to my mat, surrender to the present moment, and connect to my breath and body, I let go of all the little thoughts (to-do lists, past events, limiting beliefs, etc). Motivating thoughts waiting in the queue can come in. I can start moving forward slowly, like the famous tortoise. How have you noticed your yoga practice helping you to get more into your flow? What things have you been able to accomplish by doing this? Please share your comments below. |
